The Maid ...

The maid we selected apparently insisted on 2 days off per month which we could not afford. After negotiating with the agent, the agent decided to send her back.

As a result, we had to select another one. Last week, Wifey phone interviewed this other maid who is currently still in Indonesia and found her quite ok. So she will be on her way and should arrive in Singapore this week. Will be see her soon. Hope her attitude and personality is good ...

don't expect too much, but one thing very true, you have to meet a few wrong ones to meet the right one. lucky for me, i met just one wrong one to get the right one now :)

You have to constantly monitor. I was chatting with an old frend on Sat and he told me his other friend had this experience:

The long time maid (about 6 years) want to go back home to Indo. She requested to bake a cake for her family back home, so the employer said ok. In the end, she forgot to bring her cake to the airport. Along the way to the airport she wanted to go back to pick up the cake. Finally after she left, the family checked the cake and inside the cake was full of jewellry and valuables!!

Gosh! Expensive cake! How can she forget the cake. Hehehe...

You are right, we have to constantly monitor them and I heard from some people, you have to be firm and maintain that employer-employee attitude cause sometimes when they work with you for years, they tend to climb up to your head.

Even though my current one is good, I still monitor her and 'surprise' her with 'surprise visit'.

My friend has this current arrangement which I find quite good. His maid currently has no day off (paid extra). So, the maid DOES NOT HOLD ANY MONEY AT ALL on her.

All her pay, and personal stuff she need to buy (e.g. personal shampoo, personal shower gel etc.) are all recorded in an accounts book. All expenses are paid by the employer. Until such time she needs to perform remittance or end of contract does she get her money.

This way, it is easier as the maid does not need to maintain any bank account (which may come at a cost). Also, any money found on the maid will be "questionable".

If you got a GOOD maid, then life will be so much less stressful!
