SE M600i

After having my Nokia 6021 die on me in USA, I've decided to get a new phone with PDA functionality that is smaller than my current Siemens SX66 (2nd phone) and has no camera. The phone that fit the bill was the Sony Ericsson M600i. Yes, its a pretty old model, but then it means its latest firmware will have most of the bugs fixed and will be cheap.

Managed to get one at MobileSquare. The M600i is small, simple, cheap (SGD328) and can run navigation apps like TomTom 6 and other UIQ3 applications. Screen is crisp with QVGA resolution (320x240).

Another 36 hours ...

I am finally back in Singapore after another 36 hours of travelling time. This time round it seemed shorter somehow. Perhaps its because along the way there were things to do. The bus ride was longer, and in between the waiting times we had free Internet access at the lounge in JFK Airport.

Anyway, now that I'm back, gotta catch up on some sleep to clear the jetlag. Was going to take a day off tomorrow but have to go back in the afternoon because of work... :-(

Baltimore - Day 4

Today is a free day as the exhibition closed yesterday. KC decided to go to a local mall, so we went to Arundel Mills. This mall is huge and is very near to our hotel. Even so, we got slightly lost even with a GPS.

The mall included a 24 screen cineplex where we watched the Borne Ultimatum. Nice show with lots of non-stop action, worth watching.

After that it was shopping time. KC bought lots of children's stuff while I only managed to get a pair of jeans. Also bought some souvenirs and gifts at a Safeway nearby. Dinner was at Ruby Tuesday where I had grilled salmon (Salmon Oscar). Didn't eat too much today so could eat dessert. :-)

The long journey back home begins tomorrow morning, so gotta start packing after this entry. Really can't wait to get back home.

Baltimore - Day 3

Today was work as usual. However, we didn't realise that the exhibition hall is closing today at 1 pm. So by 12+, most of the exhibitors were already starting to pack up. As a result, today was a short day. *yay!*

Went back to hotel after a Wendy's lunch. Dinner we decided to go to Boccaccio, an Italian restaurant near the Inner Harbour (both LP Steamers and Boccaccio had good reviews on the Internet).

When we reached, there was valet parking and the setting inside seemed quite formal. There was a sign saying "proper attire" was required. Once inside, I could see people dining in suits and dresses, while I was only wearing jeans and polo shirt. After a while, more people came, with some in bermudas and shorts.

I ordered Minestrone Soup and a main, which is a Gnocchi with potato, walnuts and a herb cream sauce. The main serving was huge! Each Gnocchi was essentially a super starch ball (made of flour and potatos). Was stuffed after finishing about half of the contents on the plate.

Anyway, dinner ended with a plate of shared Tiramisu and KC picking up the bill ... :-D

Baltimore - Day 2

Today was mainly work. Spend the entire day at the conference / exhibition centre talking to potential vendors. The weather was hot and humid as there was a heatwave sweeping across the east coast of USA. KC was getting sore throat from all the heaty food and hot/dry weather.

Didn't go out for dinner, spent the evening at the hotel in front of the laptop and plasma TV ... :-)

Baltimore - Day 1

Today was the first day of the Exhibition cum Conference. Along the way, we (my colleague, KC, and I) had McDonald's for breakfast. Using my PDA with the Baltimore map, we managed to make our way to the convention centre without too many wrong turns.

At the end of the day, we decided to drive around Baltimore's inner harbour area. With the help of the PDA map, we ended up at Locust Point where we visited Fort McHenry. Must have been a strange sight for the locals (mostly dressed in casual jogging and walking attire) to see 2 Chinese guys dressed in shirt and pants walking in the park snapping photos ...

After that, we had dinner at a place called L P Steamers (L P = Locust Point). Had crabcake, 2 medium crabs, a steamed seafood platter, pitcher of Mist and a chocolate cake, yum!

36 Hours

This has got to be the longest travel time in my life. It took me 36 hours from boarding the plane to stepping into my hotel room in Baltimore! The journey summarised:

1. Singapore - Frankfurt (12 hours)
2. Frankfurt transit (2 hours)
3. Frankfurt - New York JFK (8 hours)
4. New York JFK Airport - Newark Airport (3 hours by "bone shaking" bus including waiting time)
5. Newark Airport (7 hours waiting for domestic flight)
6. Newark Airport - Baltimore Airport (2.5 hours including flight delay waiting on tarmac)
7. Baltimore Airport - Hotel (1.5 hours including bus, renting car, getting lost and reaching hotel)

In summary, I left on Sat night (Singapore time) and reached the hotel on Monday afternoon (Singapore time). In Wifey's own words, "I sleep 2 times you also haven't reach there!".

What's worse is Murphy showed up just as I reached Baltimore. My Nokia decided not to work, it can't be turned on after the plane landed. After swapping to my spare PDA phone, I don't get a signal. I think my Nokia killed my SIM card! :-(

So, no calls and SMS this week. Only Skype and Internet in the evening. BTW, Internet is also not cheap, USD9.95 per day.

Travel Time

More traveling in this coming week, will be off to the USA again, this time to Baltimore. Wonder how the place looks like, heard they have a nice harbour. Anyway, its for business so I guess won't have much time to catch the sights.

Anyway, will update more when I am there.

Widescreen LCD

One of my CRT just went kaput a couple of days ago, so I am now the owner of a brand new Philips 22" widescreen (1680x1050) LCD! :-D

LCD prices are really dropping, I bought the 22" for almost the same price as my other 19" about half a year ago. 19" screens from well known brands such as ViewSonic, Philips, LG and Samsung can be had for under $400. The 22" can be as low as $419! (ViewSonic)
